784 - Detachment

Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week were: misery, privilege & stale.
A cheery bunch, but here goes:

Detachment
Dedicated to Smokin' Joe

Men of privilege laugh and joke
About their balance sheet,
Inflicting misery onto those
They hope to never meet.

Far below, in the poorer parts,
Life is far from merry:
They’re born,
They work,
They struggle on,
Until, finally, they bury.

They hear the laughter from the hill,
It adds to their despair.
While the stale smell of good cigars
Hangs heavy in the air.

  1. A great poem you have written dear Cosmo and so true. These politicians are detached and have no idea of the reality and struggle of the lives of many people, nor do they care.

  2. The age of entitlement is over - unless we are talking about Smokin Joe and his friends...

  4. Ouch yes indeed - you would think it's a thing of the past but that cigar smoke filters through the ages..maybe they will get gout however although it's the folks below who have to bury their sorry arses...

  5. The contrasts are chilling.. the poor are just the number of the balance sheets... and even air is monopolized with cigar smoke..

  14. Such startk truth....

    'Inflicting misery onto those
    They hope to never meet.'

I am sure even if they met the people they would not care....karma is all I can hope for.

  17. The distance between the haves and have nots is ever growing. And most everything else is just to keep us distracted from it.
