821 - Divergent Taxonomy

Sunday Whirl (Wordle #215) presents a list of words
that we must incorporate in a writing piece.

The words this week are:

Friends, pond, bridge, money, poor, teeth,
Skirt, cell, organs, DNA, tower, signal

Divergent Taxonomy

Leaders are perceived
By the signals they send,
By the stances they take.

They should, by definition, lead.
They should bridge the divides
Between the poor and the well-off,
Between the workers and commerce,
Between ignorance and understanding
Between countries,
Friendly and not so.

Leaders can be trusted,
They do not skirt issues,
They find solutions, not excuses.
They do not place opponents
Into cells or into exile.

Leaders are towers,
Beacons of faith,
Who shine light where it's needed,
Who inspire us to be our best,
Remind us to play nicely
And to share our pond.

Sadly, leadership is not a role
Embraced by Government,
Rulers, not leaders.
Weak men of poor character
Who frame the world by money,
Costs and benefits,
Not seeing that people are not commodities
But living bodies.
Our ruler’s organs of compassion
Have withered,
To be replaced by grotesquely
Enlarged genitalia.
They revel in alpha posturing
With all its bared teeth
And beating of hairy chests.

Leaders inspire and unite,
Their entire being is for the group.
Rulers divide and suppress.
Theirs is a different DNA:
Divisive.
Non-caring.
Arrogant.

  1. Painfully true. And beautifully expressed. Thank you.

  2. Bravo: this is what I was trying ineffectually to say in my wordle. Yours should be read by all those pseudo-leaders who govern our countries. Please may I keep it to read again?

PS I also love the title.

  3. We live in hopes that one day a leader of whichever party or persuasion will live up to our dreams...but we dream on. Show this to any politician and they will say "But you don't understand" and that is true, we don't understand how pathetic they are.

  4. Nicely cut right to the crux of it. Well done.

  5. The hard truth, beautifully executed.

  6. We've not seen a true leader anywhere in this sorry world of ours for such a long time...that's why it's in such a mess.

  7. Alas all too true.. too many rulers and not enough leaders.. it takes so little really, and just see the benefits those who dare can harvest. But it takes courage and patience.

  8. Sadly, there is too much truth in these lines. At least the so-called leaders are not fooling anyone.

  9. I haven't visited here for a while. You have such a knack for getting to the heart of things ---and eloquently, too.

This is so timely. Here in the U.S. we are in full campaign mode even though our presidential elections are more than a year off. The field is full of NON-leaders, those who have no compassion or empathy and only care about the money big corporations can donate to their campaign funds and what they can do to repay the corporations with legislation that will benefit businesses and those who have more money than they can ever use. But I disagree with Kerry (above.) It seems these men and women fool a lot of people. I thought Bush was terrible. Most of those running to be his party candidate are just as bad or worse.

You've come this far - thank you.
Take your time, look around,
There is lots to see.
