1019 - The President's Picnic

The President’s Picnic

If you turn on the news today
You’ll feel you want to cry
If you turn on the news today
Expect to see some lies.

For every lie that ever there was
Will be broadcast there for certain
Because the news is the way
The President fools the public.

Snow job time for Presidents
The little Presidents are having
A lovely time today.
Watch them as they change events
And then recant the previous day.

See them freely change the news
In any way they choose
They never make any sense
Behind the scenes the Russians and Saudis
Will take them out for drinks
Because they’re rich little Presidents.

Every President whose been bought
Acts in a treasonous way
There’s lots of marvellous cash to keep
And wonderful deals in play.

Behind the lies where nobody sees
They'll muddy the water as long as they please
'Cause that's the way the
Presidents fool the public.

  1. I am not going down to those woods - the surprise seems alarming ;)

  2. Voters always get the governments (and presidents) they deserve, but usually they learn that lesson next time then go back to dreamland.

    1. No invitation is better than one taped to the nose of a cruise missile coming through the front doors. Can take the charm off the lead-lighting very quickly.

  6. The truth of your poem is cause for great sadness here in the U.S.

  7. I always click on your link with anticipation. The teddy bear song was one of my favourites as a child. Love the Liar Meter. In the US, that would be the FBI, and he'said replacing them with his henchmen. Utterly unbelievable goings on.

  8. Fool me once, shame on you -- fool me twice, shame on me. And then there was PT Barnum, there is a fool born every minute. It's easy to tell lies, hard to tell the truth, and sometimes hard to know it.

  9. Alas we have come from a point when they lie sometimes to a series of constant lies... There will be a point when he will realize that trust might actually matter.

  10. ... behind the lies where nobody sees ... powerfully descriptive. Apt commentary on the present political climate.

I should not comment on politics.

  15. There are so many surprises since the change! The desire to have public opinion to your side will tighten their resolve not to freely accept. Now credibility has been thrown to the winds with the sacking of the FBI head. Not going to be easy to thrust down their throats with whatever replacements to the office.

  16. I enjoyed 'hearing' it to the tune. So light and amusing ... and so very serious.
