Dreams
Night
Crisp sheets
The Sandman
Sprinkles dust
Drifting
The mind blurs,
Creamy, dreamy,
Dim memories—
Seeds sown
Into the black loam
Of the untilled paddock
Of the mind.
Visions shimmer,
Voices whisper.
Or not.
No script.
The seeds planted
Sprout
Giving uncertain
Harvests. Crops
Mutate. Fragment.
Stretch, warp, twist.
Flying. Falling. Crushed. Loving.
Fearing. Dragons. Friends. Lovers. Demons. Holding. Swirling. Loving. Faster. Slower. Panic. Embracing.
Chasing. Chased. Chaste. Or not.
Close emotions.
Distant alarm.
Intrudes.

You had me at the title. Love the use of free form as it works so well in relation to dreams which are often fragmented pieces of life. Are we chasing dreams or are they chasing us? I wonder.
ReplyDeleteI love the shape of this poem and the lines:
ReplyDelete'Seeds sown
Into the black loam
Of the untilled paddock
Of the mind'.
I think we often are waken by such a crescendo of dreams... I do not need an alarm
ReplyDeleteI like this poem. You really capture something authentic about the feel of dreams, and I like what you have done with the shape of your poem.
ReplyDeleteAm wondering if the shape of the poem was also intentional. Very interesting formatting and that distant indruding alarm would get thrown somewhere...
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely exquisite! ❤️ The poem in its entirety describes how much impact a dream can have on us.
ReplyDeleteeric here. oh we shut down so much, putting conditions on love, which protect us from small pains and great glories. or not
ReplyDeleteThanks eric, you have set the bar at a new level.
DeleteExcellent poem, and formatting!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love one word sentences! Thanks for reminding me how good they can be 🙂
ReplyDeleteYour opening pulled me right in. "Chasing. Chased. Chaste. Or not." Clever wordplay!
ReplyDeleteThe poem puts us into the dream with its seeds and uncertain terrain. Many vivid images as we are led deeper into the nature of that place without time. Thank you for the evocation. So well done.
