1892 - Serendipity

A Galton Board

What's Going On invites us to write about 'The Journey'.
I was in a reflective mood.

Serendipity
As you ramble on through life, Brother, whatever be your goal,
Keep your eye upon the doughnut, and not upon the hole.

Is it a journey
If you have no idea
Where you are going?
Is a destination,
A place to aim for—
Is it mandatory?
Must you have one
For it to qualify
As a true journey?
What if you step out
With no end in mind?
Is it still a journey?
Yes, certainly, university
Was a stop-off, a way station,
But beyond that—
A thousand possibilities
In the Galton Board
Of life.
What, I wonder,
Is the collective noun,
For journeys not taken?

  1. I loved your reflective poem Cosmo I think the journey is the important part Destination or not. Oh and the might-have-beens of journeys not taken

  2. I love the summing up of these questions: "What, I wonder,
    Is the collective noun,
    For journeys not taken?
I wonder, sometimes, the same about mine, though I always felt led--or pushed--somehow. Good poem!

  3. I loved this take on the prompt......,ine was a serendipitous, unintended journey with quite possibly assistance from spirit guides, frustrated at my incompetence. LOL. Nice to read you, always, Cosmo.

  6. Good questions - all of them! I especially like the first one, if it is a journey if you have no idea where you are going! That might apply to a lot of us.

  7. the final two lines pack a real punch. We are doodling along on this sea of uncertainty and then jolted back to all the paths we failed to take. Very well written.
