850 - Empty Promises

Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week are: backbone, cheapen and dangle.

Empty Promises

A backbone
Is scarce
Around here;
Stances
Are not taken.
Re-election
Is the sole aim.
Morals gone,
Forsaken.
Votes!
Votes!
Dangled banknotes!
A con game
Buy the lies,
Don’t discuss
The promises
Just disappear
It cheapens
All of us.

  1. Polling stations do have the air of a pee stained phone box - you think your little X makes a difference but shudder when you leave..i don't think truth is valued in many areas of life sadly..

  2. How right you are.
And increasingly it is becoming obvious to me that we are seeing the same pig, in nicer lipstick...

  5. I like the way your poem is set out a bit like a backbone. The age of democracy is dead..we're back to plutocracy the world over.

  6. Universally true, unfortunately!

  10. Democracy, and too many of its people, has indeed lost a backbone.

Love the structure of the poem, too.

  11. Bread and circuses... It's always been that... Sad when even appearances have been given up.

  12. I agree.........it is always such a relief when one of the candidates is reality-based and talks sense. All the hyperbole and name calling is just sickening.

  13. "Dangled banknotes!" Ain't that the truth!

  14. The more politicians are paid, the more corrupt they become. The greater their pension grows the more they line their pockets. They are only interested in the elector once every 3 or 4 years...but we are watching them.

  15. Well said...corruption in those banknotes...
