Two thirds of a Three Word Wednesday.
I found this photo when searching for an illustration for the previous poem,
submitted for this weeks Three Word Wednesday challenge.
I was taken by the photo and attempted a second entry.
The words I had to work with were 'nestle', 'fall' and 'absolute'
but when I had finished the work, a pantoum, there was nowhere
for 'absolute' to go but in the title.
Absolute Acceptance
When the hot ash begins to fall,
Spread like a blanket upon the town,
Into loving arms they crawl
And so embraced, they calmly drown.
Spread like a blanket upon the town
It smothers couples nestled below
And so embraced, they calmly drown,
Accepting what the fates bestow.
It smothers couples nestled below,
Hoping that they will come through,
Accepting what the fates bestow.
There’s little else that they can do.
Hoping that they will come through,
Into loving arms they crawl.
There’s little else that they can do
When the hot ash begins to fall.
Spread like a blanket upon the town,
Into loving arms they crawl
And so embraced, they calmly drown.
Spread like a blanket upon the town
It smothers couples nestled below
And so embraced, they calmly drown,
Accepting what the fates bestow.
It smothers couples nestled below,
Hoping that they will come through,
Accepting what the fates bestow.
There’s little else that they can do.
Hoping that they will come through,
Into loving arms they crawl.
There’s little else that they can do
When the hot ash begins to fall.

Wow ... loved the passion here :-)
ReplyDeleteSad but very touching. One can only imagine the horror. But you caught it.
ReplyDeleteHeartrending.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! (And 'absolute' in the title definitely works.)
ReplyDeleteWow. Brilliant and breath-taking. One of the best poems I've read lately.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing. This is a little gem. Great job with the form.
ReplyDeleteI like this one! I have placed it on my, "My List" page located at the following address:

If you wish me to take it down, please leave me a comment there. Thank you and good write!
Excellent commitment to form!
ReplyDeleteDeeply loving. I cannot think of a better way to die than in the arms of someone you love and who loves you.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough I wrote about Vesuvius today for the Sunday Whirl wordle.
Lovely poem.
Gruesome.....and yet....
ReplyDeleteComforting calmly even in the most horrifyingly perilous conditions. Wonderful image.
Excellent!!
ReplyDeleteIs it about a volcanic eruption? It's a heart-wrenching description of a catastrophe. But i love the form.
ReplyDeleteWow... this is powerful, sad, loving, heart-wrenching... beautiful lines... I love the pantoum, how thoughts get more solidified... you took a horrifying image and put it into words perfectly...
ReplyDelete"And so embraced, they calmly drown."
What a picture! Doesn't it reveal so much about the human heart (the good stuff)?
ReplyDeleteI love a pantoum and yours is particularly poignant.
So sad, and yet, you created something beautiful from it. Very nice poem.
ReplyDeleteIt's frightening to think of such eruptions. I remember the Pinatubo 1991 experience in the Philippines. It wiped out the US Air base and a major part of the surroundings. Weather of the region went through a worst kind. Nice pantoum Cosmo!
ReplyDeleteHank
The pantoum is a special favorite of mine, when it comes to forms, and this is a sad tale, ably written.
ReplyDeleteCome along lately, here. Very moving piece. I love how the Pantoum shapes the words...Brings us all to the death. Thank you for sharing..
