651 : The Deficiency of Youth

Picture from Red Dirt Girl, I think (Tumblr)

Theme Thursday has the prompt 'Youth'.

The Deficiency of Youth

Time,
And hence age,
Gives a wisdom,
An aptitude
To apply
Skills,
Techniques
Beyond
The functional.
Embracing
The subtleties
Of which the raw
Mechanical
Energy of youth
Is completely
Oblivious.
Youth knows how.
Age knows why.
And also—
Why not.

  1. I'm aged like a fine limburger, and I still don't know why or why not, most of the time. ~

    1. Funny, I read that as 'hamburger' initially. It's not easy being green.

  2. And isn't it a shame that the mechanical energy and the knowledge only live together in the one individual for about twenty five seconds. If we are lucky.

  3. Unfortunately, wisdom doesn't always come with age. Sometimes age travels alone! :) See Nigerian scammers, and people who believe in get-rich-quick schemes.

  4. So true, there again, I am older and wiser, I think?

  5. yes... we learn that we don't have to do necessarily everything that we have the skills to do... def. a process to learn to step back sometimes as well...

    1. There is a wisdom in not doing everything within your abilities…I am sure I could eat a raw oyster if I had to but why?

    2. Rev. Dodgson.December 28, 2013

      "O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
      "You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
      But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
      They'd eaten every one.

    3. I have no difficulty with walruses eating oysters.

  6. I loved this, J Cosmo. Thoughtful and wise. Yes, by a certain age and level of experience we definitely should know the why not. If not, I guess we aren't as grown up as we believe.

  7. Very sensible thoughts, J.C. I admire the energy of the young, something that is slipping from my life a bit. Older and wiser? Perhaps. When I can remember things.

    Peace and joy!

  8. I am being of the opinion that I am being both ageless and of the incomparable wisdom that is the natural heritage of the princess.

    2. Can you be both ageless and embody the wisdom of the ages?

    3. Surely, the princess is proof that you can't? Mind you, her breasts seem to have aged well, defying both gravity and wind erosion.
