Carry on Tuesday asks us to use the line
“I have wiped the slate clean” in a writing.
The line originates from
a George Bernard Shaw poem.
I decided to chance my hand at another Herrick’s stanza,
as prompted by Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.
Clean Slate
The year’s been great; I can’t complain,
The good has swamped the bad,
With many things I wont forget
And few I wish I had.
'Content'
Describes the year I’ve spent.
And yet —
Despite the manner blessed,
I have wiped the slate clean again
To start the year refreshed.

I think a clean slate is the best to start the year ~
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year ~
Excellent job on the form! what better way to start the year than with a clean slate!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a concise summary of a year!!
Nicely written. I like Herrick's style and I love the opportunities for new beginnings.
ReplyDeleteHa, my 'clean slate' poem has a similar theme!
ReplyDeleteShould your friends be worried?
ReplyDeleteI hope not. My view on resolutions is to stop trying to do things you have failed at every year in the past and focus on doing what you currently do but do it better.
DeleteSo we're not getting wiped off the slate? Phew!
Delete;-)
OK, who left the permanent marker on the ledge of the whiteboard?
DeleteHow nice to be indelible!
DeleteVery clever use of the form - intriguing interrupted lines. Way cool.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! I think you could really make this form your own - it seems to come so naturally.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've been swamped by good things.
ReplyDeleteClean slates are a wonderful way to start the year - though I hope that the memory of good things remains.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely written dear J Cosmo. I am starting the year anew, just remembering the best parts of 2012.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, I hope that 2013 is a great year for you my friend.
xoxoxo ♡
So, it gets better every year! Excellent.
ReplyDeleteWe should all print this, cut it out, and tape it to our bathroom mirrors. Excellent advice, beautifully said.

ReplyDeleteThere are a few shades of grey there...regards me, anyway!
ReplyDeleteI love, "the good has swamped the bad." Love 'Content' as the poem sings, then 'wiped the slate clean to start a fresh,' Thank you. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNow that's the way to do it!
