CDXCV - Atmospheric Static

Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week were bask, grief and raise.

Note: If you are reading this poem,
you are not the inspiration for it.

Atmospheric Static

You bask
Bask in moody retreat,
With dark looks
Used as bait,
Raising questions
But refusing to allow
A remedy to the mournful state
That saps

Saps and brings just grief

And traps.

Not now.
I can see your design
And resist
Resist the urge to compete:
The problem’s yours,
Not mine.

Sweet.

    1. Yes, it is a form of bullying, isn't it.

  2. The problem’s yours,
    Not mine.
Sometimes you have to distinguish that and distance yourself.

    1. Self-preservation is the key but the mind is an evil thing and loves revisiting the sore spots. Usually at 2am.

  3. One wonders what the background is to this poem.Curious.

    1. I wish I knew too. The sullen, silent treatment is not conducive to resolution. But if the tactic doesn't work, a new one will need to be found, no?

  4. Ah, what an awakening when one realizes it's not their problem. Nicely done!

    1. It's not the awakening, it's the getting back to sleep... :-(

  5. Really cool use of rhyme and repetition. It sort of emphasizes the silliness of the silent treatment.

  6. Love the repitition here. It is much better to not get involved in other people's problems, isn't it?

    1. So true. If only they wouldn't do the sooky 'please ask why I am so sullen - it's none of your business' routine.

    2. I think you are being told to piss off...so just walk...and if they want to come back ,tell them to go to buggery!..There you go,all fixed, no charge!

  7. Well done. And you're right; it's not your problem.

    Be cool, but stay warm.

  8. I always fail that. Dang.
Sadly, Jeanie said that on a coffee cup...
We don't change, we only change what we're doing.

oh well... I think of it more as going with the karma of it, eh?

    1. Hi Boneman! It is very easy to play their game. Even when you can see their game.

  9. So true - it's up to us how we let others affect us.

  10. I know someone I'd like to read this and realise something about themselves

  11. THis is the opposite of Seinfeld's "It's not you, it's me." Sometimes it IS the other person, and recognizing it is the first step toward what may be a healthy break. Frankly, it sounds like my first marriage, only he said I was the one with the problem... so I went to therapy and eventually realized that, if he wasn't willing to work on it, too, we needed to split.

Great post, Cos, and the black/grey of the words is enhanced by the image. Amy

    1. Thanks, Amy. It was written with a particular person (non-blogging, so it is a cry in the wilderness) in mind but the strategy is universal. Covert aggressive.

  12. The nice thing is when you are able to gain that perspective to know not to fall into another's trap. I hope the situation gets resolved!

Take your time, look around,
There is lots to see.
