620 : The Hill

A slightly modified Mark Haley photo.

The Mag provided the above picture as a prompt.

The Hill

Life is seldom black and white,
And seldom cut and dried;
Trudging slowly up life’s hill
We see others lying to the side
And swear!
Why, we ask, is life unfair?
But still—
Examination will find
They have their own fights to fight,

And daunting hills to climb.

  1. Insightful and wise little ditty! Every one has a struggle in life to a greater or lesser degree and of course the more exposure we have to people who really do have serious problems makes our own seem negligible.

    1. Yes, as a rule, we all tend to magnify our own woes and dismiss those of others.

  4. So true we all have our own battles and we can't judge someone's insides by their outsides.

  5. And how true it is. Ducks all look serene on the water - and out of sight their legs are going like the clappers...

    1. No. But usually because we have stopped at a wayside to admire the view and catch our breath.

  7. I agree. We all have our own set of "daunting hills" to climb and also, the moments when we question the 'fairness' of Life. Great poem. Loved it.

    1. Humans have an innate sense that life should be fair, that it all evens out in the end. Sadly this is not true. No evenness, no retribution at teh pearly gates. Just unfairness and struggle. Uneven struggle.

  18. yes, you can never be sure what another is going through...and should not judge unless we know

  19. Yes, the grass is always greener... Whenever I feel those green tongues of envy slashing at me, I tell myself I do not know what other people are going through.

  22. Humans I guess, have this habit of being always thinking what they not have rather than appreciating what they have.
