CDLXXVIII - A Mistake

Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week were careful, hug and mistake.

I got a bit excited and did a second submission.

Excited also by thoughts of passionate hugs
I made a mistake and left 'mistake' out.
So does that mean it's really in.  By omission?

I liked the work so I change the title.

A Mistake.

A careful hug is a doleful thing,
Cold as a witch's kiss;
It neither excites nor consoles,
Where is the joy in this?

Give in to the passions held within!
Controlled embraces will not get you thanked:
They’re like sitting, unpushed, on a swing.
Or being politely spanked.

  2. There's nothing like a big hearty hug.

  3. A hug should be full of love and feelings :-)

  4. And here was I thinking that a spinster's kiss was a hopeful and enthusiastic thing.

  5. I would argue the point about "cold as a spinster's kiss"...because said spinster may not get many kisses (and I don't mean to sound presumptuous)...the spinster's kisses could possibly be full of heat, lust...and all that stuff!

And sometimes you have to give a careful hug if the recipient has an injury of some sort! You don't want to hurt them further...but a careful hug would be welcomed.

Okay...I know...I'm pedantic! I really do understand the meaning of your poem! :)

    2. Yes...I think that's better...it suits. :)

  6. I do not like the idea of you kissing spinsters. It discriminates against married women!

    1. I'm a secular kisser. And a scientist who supports research and empirical evidence. Ladies, please line up to the left, no jostling...

    2. Secular? I thought you had a catholic taste in kissees?

  7. Methodist, I would have thought.

  8. Yes, having come back here to check - this would have been unfair to spinsters. Now it is so inaccurate re witches as to be ridiculous. Maybe a Puritan's kiss? (They being notorious killjoys.)

The Goddess of the Witches says: 'All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.'

  9. Careful hugs? No thanks. I'd rather do without!

  10. This double Aran bearhug is probably just for extra warmth.

  11. "politely spanked" - haha! :D

A hug should be hearty, or one shouldn't bother calling it a hug!

  12. unpushed on a swing or politely spanked... LOVE this!

  13. I'm someone who doesn't much like to be touched. It may be because I come from a very staid, proper-hug kind of family.

  14. Okay, this is an instance where the comments are as much fun as the poem. Cackle. (Oops, did I just tip my hand?)

  15. I like this a lot. You say so much, so easily.

  16. Well, Cos, I come from a don't-let-go hugging family. As far as spinsters, witches, librarians, centenarians, and your sister, I'd have to say the coldest kiss is from one of my aunts. They were both married; neither had children, and they were "cold as charity," as my dad used to say.

This is a fun thread. You sure got us riled up! Thanks, Cos. Amy http://sharplittlepencil.com/2013/03/18/life-cycling/

  17. Careful hugs are like insincere hugs, aren't they? "You may hug me now, young man, but don't crush my corsage or wrinkle my dress."
    Well done.
I love the idea of making a mistake by leaving out the word mistake. Wonderful.
