We Never Learn
Nothing
In this world
Is constant—
Change
Is the normal state.
Things begin,
Mature
And decay,
Create
And recreate,
Again
And again
And again.
This way
Mistakes
Of yesteryear
Can be the shadowy
Blueprint
For tomorrow's
Brave frontier.

How true!

True that!
ReplyDeleteThat's wise and true .. though sometimes it's not easy to accept change and move on.
ReplyDeleteInteresting ending – quite a turn-around from where the poem appeared to be heading. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI like this. I think it is all in how we deal with mistakes. I like the idea of using them as blueprints to chart a new course (rather than to be drowned and disillusioned by them).
ReplyDeletePolitically, we seem doomed to repeat the same cycles, not learning a thing. Thankfully, as individuals, we do a bit better. Loved this, Cosmo.
ReplyDeleteOh, the wonders we could build if we only remembered to use the lessons birthed by yesterday's mistakes...
ReplyDeleteFantastic piece.
I think mistakes will be polished to successes... but maybe it's even worse with good intentions really.
ReplyDeleteThat last line...is that a good thing? Or a cautionary idea?
ReplyDeleteI have been learning this hard lesson for many years now and it speaks truth in volumes....those mistakes are so necessary. I really loved this!!
ReplyDeleteSo that's what happened! We model all on mistakes rather than on possibilities. What if we trashed all of the old structures and started over?
ReplyDeleteLove it! If only we could bring ourselves to cast the occasional backward glance.
ReplyDeleteIt is a cycle--I love the thought here and I love the pairing of the photo to the verse--
ReplyDeleteI love this. What a shame humans forget so easily the importance of learning from the past
ReplyDeleteSadly instead of thinking how can we survive, we think "70years plus hey! How can I make a big profit out of that and damn everyone else, and what does it matter about the Earth that for my kids to work out!"
