1378 - The Single Candle

Based loosely on some of the prompt words presented by Elephant's Child.

The Single Candle

A single candle, lit with love,
Burns silently beside me.
A reminder of life's mismatch,
As we juggle calendars, life
And distance.  Distance
That separates but doesn't divide.
I look at it, comforted,
When the world around
Seems harsh and uncaring.
I look at it, thoughtful,
When I ponder the beauty
And fragility of life.
I look at it, thankful,
Knowing you will hear me
When I need to reach out
And touch your name,
in silence.

  1. Poignant and beautiful - which I often find myself saying about your poems.

Such a deep world in Silence. The poem speaks of the wordless depths of the heart. The perennial flame offers light and warmth in a frightening world. Love is steady and cannot be extinguished. These are the thoughts your poem inspires. Thank you for it.

  3. Unlike your previous poem, where the gleam of light showed the way out, in this one it seems that the light is saying 'stay with me'.

  4. The candle remains.
    Let the storm pass.
    Let the mind quiet.
I shall return to the stillness that never left.

You've come this far - thank you.
Take your time, look around,
There is lots to see.
