"I arrived on schedule. The food appears to be missing. Explain."
MLMM Monday Wordle #480 presents the following words for us to work with:
crow, window, near, time, expect, flight, message, begin, stars, regret, smart, dark
The White Bird of Scorn
Is a white cockatoo
The anti-crow?
Both are smart, true,
But there are differences—
Black versus white,
Meat versus seeds.
Crows are gymnastic stars,
Fearless and in your face.
Crows sit on power poles,
Near but not too near.
Cockatoos, flights of cockatoos,
Appear on time, noisily,
At my window.
Food is expected, demanded,
With dark looks if it is absent,
The message is clear—
I will regret it
If tithes are not paid.
Crows shrug and move on,
Cockatoos begin to
Dismantle your house,
One window at a time.

Putty criminals.
ReplyDeleteA most astute observer able to depict all the characteristics of the specie. Most excellent and disciplined poem
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in. My parents had a cockatiel, and that was demanding!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, yes cockatoos are persistent!! Great poem.
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison and we saw many cockatoos when in Sydney
ReplyDelete"I arrived on schedule. The food appears to be missing. Explain."
ReplyDeleteI identify with this bird.
I believe that Magpies being black and white takes its black traits from the crow, and now I know what the white give them
ReplyDeleteHa ha!! Brilliant. Oh, those scrappy cockatoos. One cannot disobey one's nature, I guess. You had me at the title and then that final image at the end just made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteBig Bird Bullies, the cockatoos. We have crows around here but not the cracker (lovers.) You're right the crows get close but not too close. And I don't encourage them. I listened to an NPR segment on how crows hold grudges.
