MLMM Monday Wordle #487
presents the following words for us to work with:
presents the following words for us to work with:
cheers, choir, grand, ill, man, place, reserved, rest, stool, together, turn, twinkle.
Up front confession: I didn't use choir or twinkle.
The Place
Dedicated to the lovely Linco Li.
An accountant,
In France,
With a spreadsheet
And ergonomic stool,
Who wished him no ill,
But no longer needed him
In his grand scheme
Of rows and columns,
Decided it was his turn
And he was “let go”.
Être remercié—
To be thanked.
◊
New staff were shown
Every desk—
Except one.
“That one’s taken.
Take one of the rest”.
The man who had sat in that place
Was not there now.
But he could be.
◊
So, she reserved his desk.
She kept it clean.
And, should he return—
It was ready for him,
There would be cheers.
And cake.
And they could sit,
Quietly,
Side by side,
Working together
Again.

Love the way the chequered towel reflects the spreadsheet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in. I like the presentation
ReplyDeleteI like the possibility of return and the seat being reserved.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, spreadsheets are a thing of my past! My seat was replaced with four Mumbaians. I wonder if there's have since been replaced too.
ReplyDeleteI love a good spreadsheet even now, at work to keep track of costings of recipes and at home for blood pressure/sugar and to keep track of poems... I had a boss who introduced me to them working on squared paper with pencil and rubber to develop business cashflows...
DeleteMany people are being "let go", at present due to AI - premature as that may be but when Excel came in, it was predicted to be the death of accountants but it opened up things accountants had previously not dreamed of - so all the "computer" guys and girls who added up the figures, retrained and accountancy boomed! I hope this guy gets to come back...
ReplyDeleteAm glad that the poem leaves an impression that he might return... For a moment I thought he may not...
ReplyDeleteEven if he's gone, he still remains. <3
ReplyDeleteHe could come back again. Like a dumb phone is on the rise again. Good things come in a cycle.
ReplyDeleteIt's a measure of human progress that can relate to develop and improve their usefulness. Wonder what can come after AI? Great thoughts Cosmo!
