1394 - The Blessing

The Sunday Whirl presents these twelve words for us to use in a creative writing piece.

voices time story debris present travel lead doors roots prophecy last mirror

The Blessing

The voices of time grew louder.

We both heard them.

We still walked the garden paths,

held hands in the quiet,

but the last door was coming into view.

On a wheeled-walk,

one of her final weeks,

while she was still fully present,

she stopped, looked at me,

and with a steady, loving breath said:

"You must find another wife".

It was not a prophecy.

It was a blessing.

We stood together

at the doors life sets before us—

grief, solitude, freedom—

and she pointed me toward

the one marked Live.

Roots run deep in the story we shared;

growth belongs to the new leaves.

Now the mirror of the past

still shows its debris and treasures,

but it does not bind me.

I travel forward,

letting love lead,

knowing it can be given twice in one life—

once as a beginning,

once as a renewal.

A blessing.

a beginning then a renewal. Deep love expressed in both clearly showing that true love does not die. It may lie dormant but when it is renewed, it is truly a blessing. Thank you for this beautiful poem.

  4. But don't be too hasty finding another wife. My BIL's wife died in 2021 with COVID and Heart trouble. He moaned and complained and searched for another wife. But the ladies he counted were years and years younger than he. Soon though he was married to a lady he didn't even know a month. Less than two weeks he found her leaving with her things AND HIS THINGS. They had a big fuss and she roared off, and kept his truck. Then she hid it and was keeping it. His lawyer suggested he let her keep it as a part of the divorce. After that divorce he was married to a "nicer lady" in another less than a month.
That was maybe five months ago. They bought a "nicer house" but after closing found oodles of problems with it. Right now his fourth wife is in another state "visiting her parents" for a while.
    Duno what is next.
All this for reasons not to be hasty finding the new wife.

  6. J, a fickle love? "but it does not bind me. I travel forward." I once knew a fellow like this, he was married and didn't travel far.

  7. I firmly believe that love comes in multiple forms and should be cherished when it blesses our lives. Here's to love, no matter when it enters our life.
