dVersepoets has the prompt "Pivot".
Pivot Point
You have to leave something behind
to move forward.
– Bikey Thapa
Thirty-nine years—
It is time to go.
The frame creaks,
The clocks chime slowly,
They know all too well
How relentlessly time slips by.
In a daze, I walk around—
The house is partially empty now,
Old memories loop around me.
My footsteps echo too.
Boxes are filled, stacked, waiting.
The longest hour, the hardest hour,
Is the one just before leaving.
But one must look to the future,
Take chances—if not now, when?
To be rooted to one spot is comfortable,
But comfort is where dreams go to die.
I open the door
and step out...

I love how you ended this. All that history, all those stories/memories of the past--now to the stepping out into a new adventure.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved moving house. It made things fresh again.
ReplyDeleteThe longest hour, the hardest hour,

So true, and where would we ever be if we never dared?
A perfect response to the prompt and reflective of my attitute, as well. I've loved every place I've left. Loved the new place even more...

Good on you and well expressed I love "But comfort is where dreams go to die." A nice piece of wisdom.
ReplyDeleteIt takes both courage and hope, I think.
ReplyDeleteA pivotal moment, choosing to take a risk, have faith, and let go of our desire for certainty.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed ...
ReplyDeleteSo well done! I love:
ReplyDelete"To be rooted to one spot is comfortable,
But comfort is where dreams go to die."
A very moving poem expressing the gravity of this courageous move. The brevity of the work adds to the impact. I wish you luck and future happiness.
ReplyDeleteComfort kills dreams...how true. As I read your lines I wonder whether I have the strength to step out...
ReplyDeleteComfort being where dreams go to die, seems to be a most popular line. I also add my vote for it. I also love the memories looping around - brings to mind a cat looping one's ankles. Well done. Another fine poem.
