Poetry Jam had the prompt "What do you value?"
Now, I pushed a few ideas around - love, trust, humour, frienship, logic...
All valuable, to be sure, but one thing stood out:
The First Coffee.
There are things that will display
An intrinsic value, in their way.
But none of this batch
Can hope to match
The first sweet coffee of the day.

J Cosmo, I couldn't agree with you more! The smell of coffee brewing, that first sip to savor ---nothing better!
ReplyDeleteI know many people who can't function until they've had that first coffee. I've never liked tea or coffee (call me strange) so I've never had that longing for a morning coffee. xx
ReplyDeletei will give you an amen on that one....my first cup is what gets me going in the morning....straight black please....
ReplyDeleteI join Brian for coffee in the morning ... make mine with a splash of cream please!!
ReplyDeleteAh yes - I love that first cup of coffee in the morning... but without sugar.
ReplyDeleteAm I being correctly of the impression that you are being of a mind to be valuing an extract of burnt beans more greatly that love, trust, honour and things of a humorous inclination? I am being dismayed in an extreme way.
ReplyDeleteI know I had commented on this poem, J.Cosmo. Right after you posted it this morning. I hope my words didn't go into spam!! I had made the comment that I couldn't agree with you more!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, for some reason your comments often go into spam and I have to find and release them from there. I don't know why that happens.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't happen to anyone else, either. Have you offended Blogger?
ReplyDeleteNice one..though I don't drink coffee, I raise my chocolate to you ~
ReplyDeleteThe first coffee of the day is often bitter. That's why I prefer tea. Tea is so proper; it wouldn't dare be bitter.
ReplyDeleteUnless, of course, it was left over from the night before.
Agree.. About to drink that first cuppa joe in a minute here.
ReplyDeleteI agree ... :-)
ReplyDeleteI hear you, Me too. It's the kind of beginning that makes everything else worthwhile--and everything else gives me the peace of mind to relax with that first cup of coffee.
ReplyDelete{smile} i've been hooked on iced coffee this summer! there's something about watching the milk swirling into the coffee as you pour the milk over the dark, strong, sweetened coffee on ice! decadent and divine!
ReplyDeletethank you for joining in at Poetry Jam!
♥
Why does the second one never taste quite as good :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you only knew how often I have tried to take a picture like that.
How many cups of coffee did this one take?
How true! I enjoyed reading this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment!
Amen to that! I'd be lost in a daze without that magical first cup. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteOh, I so understand this one! :)
