Poetry Jam has a prompt "Letters".
Here's one I wrote earlier.
The Letter
I got a letter yesterday
Handwritten by a friend;
On crisp and starchy paper,
A signature at the end.
No, not a love letter
But lovely, none the less,
For the surprise of its arrival
And the thoughts expressed.
I can see her in my mind -
Sitting at an escritoire;
A coffee at her elbow,
Some flowers in a jar.
Caring, tangible thoughts
From someone, far away.
I put it carefully in a drawer,
To reread another day.

J Cosmo, this is beautiful. The joy of a handwritten letter can live on for a long time to come. I remember such letters...that I read again and again. Somehow emails don't have quite the same flavor, even if you have a 'file' to save them in!
ReplyDeleteLovely image you painted. Really in your hand letters are becoming such a thing of the past now.

ReplyDeleteI like how you put it--not a love letter, but with love anyhow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You make it seem as though the words just flow from your fingers in perfect rhyme. I'm so jealous.
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely lovely response to the prompt! Real letters always have such an impact; they take time and thought and can actually be touched. What a concept. 8-) I'd love to see the return. Nice poem. Such a pretty presentation, too, with that picture.
ReplyDeleteI , too, save letters and reread them. Alas, don't get too many anymore. Lovely poem
ReplyDeleteI received a handwritten letter from an old friend for my birthday. It was such a treat! True - emails just aren't quite the same ...

beautiful...also first coffee.
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful and makes me want to both send and receive a letter!
ReplyDeleteSweet, cute, delightful. Beautiful poetic tribute to what seems a lost art.
ReplyDeleteWow, nice one. Using any kind of rhyme is always a big challenge to me and you did it so smoothly and well here. Just makes the poem read so well. By the way, I like the title of your blog (kind of related to letters!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet rhyme. I do hope the story it told was true!
ReplyDeleteAs a eulogy for something which has largely gone this could not be bettered.
ReplyDeleteI too can remember some wonderful letters. Kept, treasured and wrapped in a red ribbon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cosmo for reminding me so gently of such delights.
OH, lucky you! Letter writing is a dying art.
ReplyDeleteIt has something to do with the holding of a letter in the hand... it is more personal, more intimate. I love the scene you set up.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and sentiment. It is sad that most of us don't write letters anymore. (I'm guilty.)
ReplyDeleteI received a letter a few months ago from a friend who lives far away .. your poem describes how I felt ~ it's on my nightstand for re-reading. Lovely writing.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I do write many lengthy missives via this medium, sending them off through cyber space, there are the times, that I do, still, venture forth on the snail mail trail. However, sadly, there are not many who meander that path with me these days...even the recipients of my paper letters.
ReplyDelete"Notes on a Serviette" has been included in the Sites To See for this week. I hope this helps to point many new visitors in your direction.

Big thanks for the useful info i found on Comentari de categoria nova.
ReplyDeleteIn fifty years time where will the boxes of ribbon-bundled e-mails be discovered? Letter writing is becoming a specialism to be treasured.
ReplyDeleteYour post inspired me to write one of my own about "real" photos:
