Carry On Tuesday has provided the line "These are a few of my favorite things"
from The Sound of Music and asked us to run with it, in our own way. Well, here goes:
The Politician
Party-room deals and passing new laws,
Kissing small babies and knocking on doors,
Marginal seats with positive swings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the shit hits
When the poll swings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
Party-room deals and passing new laws,
Kissing small babies and knocking on doors,
Marginal seats with positive swings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the shit hits
When the poll swings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
◊◊◊
The Media
Gathering gossip and crafting a tale
Hacking a phone and rifling the mail
Misleading stories that pull on heart-strings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the sales fall
When the boss rings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
The Media
Gathering gossip and crafting a tale
Hacking a phone and rifling the mail
Misleading stories that pull on heart-strings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the sales fall
When the boss rings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
◊◊◊
The Average Bloke
An afternoon barbie and a woman half bare
Footie on the telly and asleep in a chair
Long weekends where I don’t do a thing
These are a few of my favorite things
When the rain comes
When the boss rings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
◊◊◊
The Minister
Promising them heaven or eternal hellfire
Dressing in gowns and small boys from the choir
Low genuflecting and the kissing of rings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the flock leave
When the cops ring
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
.

I like the different perspectives on favorite things.....the repetitive lines at each stanza works well ~
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever. I love your dry or wry sense of humor
ReplyDeletehahahahahahaaaa!
ReplyDeletei admit to a bit of a language barrier - when i read 'afternoon barbie' and 'woman half bare' - i thought you were doing a wry take on girls who look like barbie dolls (and act like ones, too!)
so i'm laughing even harder!
xxx
Well, that could be the case but it wasn't what i was thinking of.
ReplyDeleteBarbie being an Ozism for barbeque.

This is hilarious! I kept trying to sing along in with the tune while I was reading this. These are certainly not things that Fraulein Maria would ever sing about, but they're a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteDelightful, as always, J.C. The world from various perspectives, and a poetic form well mastered.
ReplyDeleteNow, if I could just remember some of my favourite things.
Hope winter is getting better.
Winter has a few weeks to go, formally. Functionally, probably a bit longer, but things are shooting, blossom forming. Life goes on.
ReplyDeleteSo very brilliantly hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Smiling here.
ReplyDeleteWell this brought a wonderful smile during my morning coffee today. I like the different people's views and the repetitions suit them each so well. Nicely done :)
ReplyDeletelaughing! I love your take on the prompt.

ReplyDeleteAnd the *S**T always hits the fan. ;)
cool cool awesome approach to the topic..great, loved it :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome piece. I love the repetitive lines!
ReplyDeletean absolute delight, your post.....I loved every 'thing'!
ReplyDeleteCos, love all of them, but you know my favorite is about the priests. Honest to Pete, what is it about professional confessionals? The altar boys, the phony celibacy (my BFF was a priest and said they all took that one with a grain of salt)... Stinging satire, and loved it. Good on you, Cos! Amy
