Sunday Whirl (Wordle #122) presents a list of words
that we must incorporate in a writing piece.
The words this week are:
floor, heart, stay, dreamed, persuaded, period,
degrees, years, space, nestled, if, vision, tribute
A Stranger in their Land.
I slip through the grove of trees,
A stranger in their land;
I don’t think they notice me at all
Or dismiss me out of hand.
It seems my vision has degrees,
Some dreamed and rather grand;
Others stay in a foetal ball
And refuse to go as planned.
But my hopes are nestled in warm arms
Upon the forest floor,
Persuaded that the space is there
To grow and then explore.
My heart absorbs these leafy charms
As if there were no more;
A tribute to the years of care
Through periods of war.
For few can see what others see
What demons they withstand,
And only they can heed the call,
Of pipe and marching band.
I slip through the grove of trees,
A stranger in their land;
I don’t think they notice me at all
Or dismiss me out of hand.

Being unnoticed is not the worst thing that can happen to a stranger in a strange land. Just imagine all the things you are privileged to see when others don't see you! (I'm delighting in the rhymes and rhythms of this poem.)
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that this is being a mostly sombrely put piece of writing and I am also thinking that you should be getting out more frequently into the fresh air.
ReplyDeleteYes, I feel the forest and the anonymousness of the person. It is quite special to be almost unnoticed in a foreign place. And it all rhymes as well! :)
ReplyDeleteNot being noticed at all is a way of seeing what others miss. This brought right into the depths of the forest.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - and how I would love to visit that green and leafy land.
ReplyDelete"...others stay in a foetal ball and refuse to go as planned." were my favourite lines. Although I must admit, it was hard to pick.
ReplyDeleteAmazing poem.
Delightfully lyrical. Not to be dismissed out of hand.

Another wonderful poem, Cosmo. :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your introspective personal poems.Travelling under the radar slipping through the cracks is the best way to get through life with the least hassle. Someone discerning will always recognise the rare dark orchid languishing amongst the leaf litter.
ReplyDeleteI love the rhythm and rhyme of this! It has a classical feel to it and is quietly thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteEnchanting and lyrical, stranger in a strange land. I love the rhyme, perfectly done.
