874 - Two themes, not unrelated

Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week are: taboo, taut and tattered.

Two themes, not unrelated.

We can live together
Politics keep us apart
Some things are taboo.

Suspicion divides.
Fear is something that is taught,
No-one is born scared.

We need a leader
But we don’t chose them wisely:
Herd mentality.

Our economics—
Get money now, pay later.
Nature remembers.

We reap what we sow?
No, we just planted the seeds,
Our children harvest.

Climate is changing.
Denial will not help us,
Tattered policies.

Taut social tensions.
Who will be the next boat people?
Climate refugees.

Greed makes us follow
Incontinent policies,
We shit our own bed.

Consumption will grow.
But we’ve forgotten one thing:
A finite planet.

  1. It is sad to think that we have now planted the seeds our children will harvest..and yes,we have forgotten that we live in a finite planet....as we harvest taking no heed of tomorrow.

  2. I was already depressed at our upcoming election and now you have made it worse. Thanks a lot! It is like going to a Fruit and Veg shop and everything on sale is rotten.

    things seem to be bleak...
    climate change
    plus greed
    plus waste
    plus terrorism
    plus guns
    plus deep division
between the haves and have nots
    not a good prognosis
for the survival of the planet
    solution
    try for happiness
    whatever it takes
    in whatever form it comes

  4. I think we all are feeling in the shit with our politics, candidates and rape of the earth....but few see this....they are blind or feel helpless. Very poignant and spot on with your observations.

  5. The finiteness of our earth is something we tend to forget... just as Thermodynamics... and we don't chose our rulers to wise...

  6. Brilliantly stated. I am especially impacted by climate refugees being the next boat people. Perhaps sooner than we think. Though in Canada we are awaiting an influx of political refugees from the US if Trump gets in. If he does, all is lost.

  7. We do indeed shit in our own bed - I don't think we can trump that line - or should that be Trump

  9. Your words and the image you've chosen are paired together perfectly....it's like we are greedily taking a big bite out of the earth...out of this finite planet.

  11. Like this but surely every generation plants the seed for their children to reep, as do the children at the same time plant seeds for their youngers to reep and us to complain!

You've come this far - thank you.
Take your time, look around,
There is lots to see.
