Lilliput II
Why am I amongst aliens?
Who are these people?
Why are their values so foreign?
They lead me to weep 'til the dawn
(Sleep, tragically forelorn)
Wherein I lament the lost dreams
As a new dark ages begins,
Fear trumps vision, it seems.

Post May 18th election. Life amongst pigmies. Greedy pigmies.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
ReplyDeleteGreedy pygmies indeed.
Pitch perfect
ReplyDeleteSo it seems!
ReplyDeleteWell it is your choice of course unless you want some advice from the rest of the world, where I am sure there are millions that can help you!
ReplyDeleteOh yes - fear trumps vision indeed. You hit the nail on the head in such a clever way.
ReplyDeleteFear seems to be trumping everything these days... Dark ages, indeed.
ReplyDeleteThat plea at the beginning went right to the heart. The embracing of fear as a goad to support power is terrifying.
ReplyDeleteSo it seems!
ReplyDeleteFear trumps vision for sure. They seem soulless, like ghouls. Scary creatures indeed.
ReplyDeleteOh I love how you used the title... Jonathan Swift's description works perfectly on politics to day.
ReplyDeleteThat is a damned clever last line. And so very sadly true.
ReplyDeletecleaver indeed...and there is a fear of uncertainty...nice write...bkm
ReplyDeleteA very impactful piece. The words 'lament the lost dreams' resonated strongly with me. I very much feel as though we are living in a time of lamentation … a time when we have gone from a dream of hope for the world - to a horrible, omnipresent feeling that all is lost … or perhaps, thrown away (almost, at times a sense that it is being gleefully torn down and tossed).
ReplyDeleteThe lost of direction circles neatly into the the last trump line. Bravo J C
ReplyDeleteHappy you dropped by my sumie Sunday this week
Muchđź’™love
Unfortunately, fear seems to be driving the whole world these days.
ReplyDeleteYes, we all share the fear. Wonderful piece!
ReplyDeleteI feel like that sometimes. Is the word trumps a Freudian slip?
ReplyDeleteA Freudian slip is to say one thing and to mean your mother.
