The Sunday Whirl presents the following words for us to use:

The Reset
I
The sun went through its cycle: from sunrise to sunset, warming the earth.
Bees went soberly about their business in the gentle morning light.
Moths and butterflies too, though more haphazard, less sober.
Birds flitted, animals grazed, the jungles and savannahs grew.
The waters burbled and swirled. Fish did what fishes do.
There was no urgency to the world.
II
Somewhere, on the savannah, an ape stood erect.
Other apes too. Confrontation. Battle.
A rock crushed a skull. A stick pierced skin.
Frenzied fighting. Lunges. Screams.
Tribal cries of triumph reverberated.
Technology. Better weapons.
Arrows.
Swords.
Guns.
Cannons.
Rockets.
Missiles.
Slaughter and mayhem.
Greed and Envy.
A world had lost its mind.
III
ENOUGH! Impatience echoed through the clouds.
Birds took to the air, animals looked up. Time stood still.
The angels screamed.

I love this! It would be nice to think such a reset might happen. And hey, welcome back to P&SU; I missed you.
ReplyDeleteMy wife had brain cancer so my attention was elsewhere.
DeleteSo sorry for your loss Cosmo. This must be a very difficult time for you. Good to be reading your poetry again!
DeleteI really enjoyed the flow, the rhythm in your poem ... a story told in poetic form.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! I love this, the form and the story. Bees drunk on what they do and wouldn't it be nice to have a reset? Good job.
ReplyDelete"ENOUGH!" sounds just about right.
ReplyDeleteYes... well said...but I wonder how we can all, collectively, do that... scream loud enough so things go back to the way they were.. if only apathy and greed had ears...
ReplyDeleteMore screaming angels are needed. We've all had ENOUGH of this insanity! I have been recruited as a screamer....I'm no angel but evidently I have the loudest voice in the southern hemisphere...Rosemary has the second loudest.:)
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent! Angels should be screaming, and people should be kinder.
ReplyDeleteBeatiful The peace of the birds and burbling water and next the aggression of ..ego I think. Great to return to the peace again
