Seven Days Seven Answers
had a prompt based on the old rhyme:
Roses are red, violets are blue
Sugar is sweet and so are you.
I beg to differ...
Roses are roses, violets are not.
"Roses are red, violets are blue",
Overused twaddle and clearly untrue.
Some roses are white, others are pink,
In Texas they're yellow, the worlds biggest, I think.
Violets are odd, with their own special hue,
Violets are violet and definitely not blue.
That sugar is sweet, I have to agree,
But that's where it ends, it seems to me.
The thinking is flawed, the analogy faulty:
Sugar is sweet but you are quite salty.

LOL! Brilliant - just brilliant with a hint of witty cynicism.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite colorful! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the picture is a...rose? Looks like a lime. But with a salty rim, I suspect. Am I missing something?

haa, great, they have to be bigger in Texas!
ReplyDeleteMmmm... Margarita...
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and frothy bit of poem! Like a cold bit of sherbet on a hot day, lush, and sweet and tantalising... and over far too soon!
Roses are roses - good in small doses; but with spice, salt and sweet, your poetry's replete.
ReplyDeleteIt's about time someone challenged that myth and you have done it beautifully and most colourfully.
ReplyDeleteThat margartia with the salty rim on the glass and slice of lime looks refreshing ... salty and sweet. ♡
This is fabulous - so glad you found a clever way to debunk that old cliche.
ReplyDeletewell, now that you mention it
ReplyDeletesugar isn't always sweet.
Too much added sugar begs the mouth
a hasty retreat.
Ah well, you must surely know truth has no hold over poets' spoke.
Rather it is the hearts of amateurs, a compliment at least in my book.
So, redden roses as you will, and paint the violets blue.
and Sweeten the sugar (buy some flowers and candy seems to be the clue)
I love it. In fact, I just named you winner for the cue.
ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo is a little cranky
ReplyDeleteRoses and sugar are not quite frankly
The stuff of his dreams, his high flown thoughts
I wonder should some naughty, hanky panky be sought?
Just popped in to say Hi dear J Cosmo and wish you a happy Australia Day; I hope you have something nice planned for the day. xo ♡
