Cold Comfort
My eyes are sore,
I cannot taste,
My nose is full of mucoid waste,
I pop some pills
I sip some tea
A hammer beats where my brain should be
I pass the time,
And, on request,
Make dirty phone calls, as a jest.

Ah! So it was you!
ReplyDeletePerhaps disinfecting your phone might help...
ReplyDeleteHas the talking to and answering yourself part hit yet?
ReplyDeleteSadly your cold is probably going to make you difficult to understand - which defeats some of the fun.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading your work. This, for instance, was one of the most poetic takes on cold I have ever read. :D
ReplyDeletehaha - i wonder if those phone calls help... my recipe against a cold is spaghetti with A LOT of garlic (disinfecting) and a glass of red wine (disinfecting as well)
ReplyDeletesmiles
How about garlic an d a lot of red wine?
DeleteI am not sure I'd want to give any phone calls when I have a cold. But I agree they can be awful.
ReplyDeleteThe ending took me by surprise.
ReplyDeleteChicken soup, industrial strength curry and cuddling a bengal will effect a cure!
ReplyDeleteA Bengal what? (He asks with trepidation)
DeleteNot a Bengal tiger!
DeleteWell a Bengal tiger might be effective but surviving the cure, tenuous!
Deleteha. nice last line....smiles....that is one way to pass the time...
ReplyDeletebetween season colds suck...i hope you feel better soon...
Certainly one way to pass the time, and a most poetic description of a cold - a free self-synthesised inebriation of sorts
ReplyDeleteGeesh! hahaha... hope you feel better and I turned off my phone just in case you don't. :-)
ReplyDeleteZQ
get well soon!!
ReplyDeletehope you are not pronouncing 'N' as 'ed'...if that's the case ginger in hot tea will give some relief...nice lines and enjoyed that Robeson bit too.. :D
ReplyDeleteUgh! I do hope you feel better soon. I love the way you rocked the rhyme and form here.
ReplyDeleteAh,, that last line made me think... Get well
ReplyDelete"A hammer beats where my brain should be." I cant help laughing, but I feel for you, too....love the "pity I cant sing."
ReplyDeleteYou must have joined the gazillions who caught that nasty one this year . . .
ReplyDeleteYes, hello...I'm trying to reach my sister....Amanda. Amanda Hugginkiss. And she's sort of hard of hearing so call her name out louder, please. I'll hold.
ReplyDeleteI'd visit more often, recently, but have been drifting through the blues. Nobody likes a sad guy at the party....but heck. Sick people don't stand a chance.
I started a new diet. One of those 30 day diets. And by gosh, so far I've lost fifteen ...days.
Winter has decided that it wants to scare simple minded folk like me, and has been dragging its feet on the way out the door. This is exactly the kind of weather that'll see snow in June. Well...at least in the mountains. (BadumpBUMP tchsssss)
(these are the jokes, folks)
Cross a snowman with a vampire? Frostbite.
Hoping your health improves. At least soon enough to run from the jokes...
Great to see you Boneman. Hope you bought shares in Kleenex. Living on lemon tea, chicken soup and red wine. Solids? The occasional aspirin. Just need to out live the bastard. Getting there.
DeleteI know that feeling...;) Get well soon dear.
