Sunday Whirl (Wordle #173) presents a list of words
that we must incorporate in a writing piece.
The words this week are:
bend, east, lane, limit, case, grain,
sound, parts, straight, water, eye, way.
Take with a grain of salty water.
Their eyes look straight at the camera,
Firm, determined and oh so sincere;
With voices rich in warm plummy sounds,
They are unbending in their cast-iron ideology
And push their case for the
Incarceration of the powerless
And the removal all limits on the powerful.
We know best.
We will protect you.
Trust us.
It’s good for the powerful to be more so,
The benefits will trickle down south, they say,
Like water through an aquifer,
To find its way to the lower parts, they say
Ignoring the evidence that this fiscal
Tide seems to be being diverted east and west
Into large private reservoirs
At the end of leafy private lanes.

Right and wrong have no meaning for it is only "can we do it or not?" If they can why not for they might not be caught.
ReplyDeleteYes, they have made getting caught the crime.
DeletePowerful... sad...won't return dead... thanks xx
ReplyDeleteI don't do seances, so only live returns, if you don't mind.
DeleteTheir voices, like the rest of them, are indeed rich. But not as rich as their attitudes. And their indignation at being challenged.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteI cannot (gratefully) get the "rich in warm plummy sounds" out of my head ... lovely in the midst of a serious poem
ReplyDeletePowerful ... and unfortunately all too evident ... except of course to them in the sincerity of their cast-iron ideology ... well wordled.
ReplyDeleteMoney certainly finds it's way up the tributary into the wrong hands...sound advice..every public message should be taken with a grain of salty water..if at all
ReplyDelete"plummy" is such a rich, comforting word, filled with sweetness and promise. Love it!
ReplyDeleteNo truer words were ever spoken!
ReplyDeleteWell said! And true.
ReplyDeleteLike others "plummy sounds" caught my ear. And "they" would tell you that is the sound of real culture,

It's amazing how greed can mean the accumulation of yet more wealth.. but one day the dams will burst...
ReplyDeleteThe route of all evil. A thought provoking piece indeed.
ReplyDeleteThought provoking indeed. Great use of the words.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great piece of thought-provoking poetry, and the ending is perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove your metaphors. Such a powerful piece!
ReplyDeleteGreed breeds greed, and more greed, and more greed. So well said.
ReplyDeleteI return their stare without a blink...
