889 - Life's Upsides and down.

Life’s Upsides and down.

On Barker’s Road, on a Friday morn,
The drive to work’s largely a yawn,
It's just a routine trip into the town.
So what I saw was very queer
And still to me not very clear
Just whywas that car upside down?
The thing was also rather dented
(I sure new words had been invented)
And, all around, was broken glass.

Of course, the fire brigade was there
And police stood around everywhere
Thankfully, they waved us past.
So as I slipped on past a
Weirdly inverted car disaster
I reflected, that if I had my druthers,
Safety and upright would stay a pair,
And for all the folk who lived out there
Some days start out worse than others.

  1. Ouch. I hope that property damage was the worst of it.

  2. Indeed, there are good days.. and bad days.. we just have to try and get through as best as we possibly can. Beautifully penned.

  5. Taking a common occurrence, a car crash, and making a poem out of it--nice!

  6. Sounds bad if the car ends up turned over... you can say it was a bad start of a day though even if there where no injuries.

  7. It is always daunting, driving past an over-turned car. Happens here so often - speed and twisty roads. I like the rhyme scheme in this piece.

  8. What an impatient world we live in where we ignore speed limits and safe distances as we hurry to our demise. Since retiring I have more people run into the back of my car than since starting driving when I started work in the '50's.

Horrible to see much worse if entangled within!

  13. It is always disconcerting when one comes upon such a sight... It makes me think 'there but by the grace of god go I.'

  14. Great poetry as usual dear Cosmo. Not a good way for anyone to start the day so make sure you stay alert whilst driving.
