Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week are:
dazzle, erupt, flimsy
The Magician
When they erupt
Onto our stage
They dazzle us
With jewels,
Hypnotise us
Like foolish chooks
with their verbal tools.
Flimsy,
Insubstantial whimsy—
It hooks.
It hooks because we are game
And, even knowing the damage,
We buy it all the same.

Yes, sadly, we do!
ReplyDeleteha...polit/r/icks it is!
ReplyDeleteand we love that we are magicked, too. PT Barnum was right... ~
ReplyDeleteSigh. Slow learners too.
ReplyDeletePoliticians are magicians whose tricks don't work with me.
ReplyDeleteClever poem - yep, sometimes we are willing fools.
ReplyDeleteSociety is full of chomps. Sickening (and terribly worrying).
ReplyDeletePerhaps it is because we want to see, to be dazzled, so shut our ears and don't really listen?
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I agree with Elizabeth .. we see what we want to see, and hear what we want to hear... and often we have a rude awakening!
ReplyDeleteWe do, and often we regret it afterwards... but maybe status quo is not a bad thing
ReplyDeleteIt's all smoke and mirrors for sure........it's amazing to me how badly people want to believe - even against all evidence that their belief is misplaced.
ReplyDeleteYup!Wake up for Pete's sake (AKA: God)
ReplyDeleteZQ
It wouldn't sell without the buyers!
ReplyDeleteSigh....
ReplyDeleteYes sadly we do.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on what stage, although even I find it hard to resist the allure, to read the signs. I so love to be fooled by artestry.
ReplyDelete"Buyer beware"
ReplyDeleteWe love the spectacle, the intrigue, the possibility of magic even though we know better....
ReplyDeleteToo often true. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThat brief moment, we are, in another place of space and time, which our troubles disappear, is the allure, for us.
ReplyDeleteOne knows it is all a game, a sleight of hand, not to believe to be true yet one buys it.
