The lad and the maiden fair went to play
Some cards on the sand at the sea;
They took some wine
And planned to dine
On crusty bread and on brie.
On brie,
On crusty bread and on brie.
The lad took hold of the offered hand
And pressed it to his heart
“The hand on my breast
Makes me long for the rest,
But I am sure it will do for a start
For a start,
I am sure it will do for a start.”
She pulled away in shock and dismay
“You men are all thinking the same.
You think if you flirt
You’ll get up my skirt
We maidens are wise to your game.
Your game,
We maidens are wise to your game.”
“Oh maiden do not think of me so
Your judgments come too quick.
The hand in my mind
Was the Crazy Eight kind;
I can’t even win a trick,
A trick,
I can’t even win a trick.

I think I am in love...
ReplyDeleteI will be at the coast all week and I will think of you everytime I am on the shore :)
-Cora :)
A sad lament indeed, yet so well metered and rhymed that I peceive it has had the paradoxical effect of winning just the kind of sympathies thou would'st spurn. It is the poet's curse.
ReplyDeleteIf this is the worse curse of my life then I suspect the Gods are smiling on me.

ReplyDeleteOh dear. I may almost become as cynical as Percy....
ReplyDeleteMayden: Love my poems, by all means.
ReplyDeleteNea: What music do you recommend? For the wine I would recommend something with a good body.
Lillie: I would prefer Percy rose to the challenge, dire though it is, to attain your level rather than you sink to his.

ReplyDeleteI am like....unbelieveable...I love how you write...I love...just love your words....
ReplyDeleteMay I please use it...to teach about poetry??...in my class...please???
Luxlucisvita: For a man who plays with words I am strangely struggling to find some. I am touched.
ReplyDeleteYes, of course you may. But you must give credit to the lovely Cora for inspiring it.
Lillie and Cosmo: Cynical? My heart faints, my head spins; mine innocence is stunned. Accordingly, I have added verse to my last post dedicated to you both.
ReplyDeleteConfused and hurt, I now must stagger off to bed, drink in hand.
Et tu, Brutes!
I do...and I will- love your poems- I have never been a groupie, but there is a first time for everything~
ReplyDeleteAs for "lovely"- non here is more so than Lux :) A sweeter- kinder- deeper soul I have yet to find.
A toast to you JCN...
