Poet’s United Midweek Motif : Caged
The Caged
Caged
And displayed—
Trophies
Of the strong
Over the weak,
Of those who seek
To demonstrate
Their power
To dominate
Their captives.
The caged,
Powerless,
Acquiesce.
At weekends
They take their children
To the zoo
But miss
The irony.

Hahaha! I missed the irony too until reading your poem. Duh! And I a theatre person who loves O'Neil's HAIRY APE. Would it be understood if I said this is a Mama Zen of a poem? Razor sharp.
ReplyDeletethat display of power is always shameless in every sphere...
ReplyDeleteHats off to you J Cosmo - you never fail to sum up what's wrong with the world
ReplyDeleteI do wish there was not so much ready material.
DeleteClever twist.
ReplyDeleteWhew! So much truth here.
ReplyDeleteOh this is very clever. And oh, that photo pings my heart.
ReplyDeleteWell said, and disturbing.
ReplyDeleteZoos and circuses should be outlawed.
ReplyDeleteA twist of truth with this drink of life
ReplyDeleteI agree, the poem is sharp and powerful! Kudos 💖
ReplyDeleteCaptor are as weak as the captive. Alas! they do not realise the same.
ReplyDeleteThe caged, Powerless, Acquiesce.
ReplyDeleteAt weekends
They take their children
To the zoo
They are free yet they feel shackled
