Poet’s United Midweek Motif : Teaching.
Show Class.
Small eyes.
Friendly eyes.
Curious eyes.
Jealous eyes.
Government eyes.
Electronic eyes.
Neighbours.
Friends.
Colleagues.
Strangers.
All making
Mental notes
As they watch you.
Every moment
Of your life
Someone
Somewhere
Is watching you.
And what you do,
What you say,
How you live your life
Is teaching them
A little bit more
About you.

Big brother is watching!
ReplyDeleteAnd little grandson!
DeleteIt's modern life. You must be really fascinating to have all these people making mental notes about you and watching you.I shall look at you more carefully to see what I have missed.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you were talking about all those who evaluate teachers, and when it became clear you were talking about the learners and not the judges I smiled big and felt awe. It reminds me of the technique of always teaching as if our best friends were in the room so we were always watchable. And, of course, it reminds me of being alive. Whether it is Santa or God or a child watching, it is the pattern of our lives that has the loudest voice. Thank you.

DeleteLove the way your style changes poem to poem.
ReplyDeletevery true...
ReplyDeleteProfound, JCosmo. Very, very true!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to head towards the typical "Big Brother" is watching thing but ends as kind of a positive challenge to be a good role model. Well done.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool response to the Prompt!

ReplyDeleteOh, dear! And I thought I lived a private life!
ReplyDeleteA scary thought.
ReplyDeleteAnd then "they" tell us we're not being watched. Great poem/insight
ReplyDeleteFunny. I didn't think it was about being watched. I felt it was about being read.
ReplyDeleteLess talk, more action and let us all lead by our (good) example. Easy to say, hard to do...
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the theme!
