Three Word Wednesday requires participants
to use the three words of the week in a composition.
The words this week are:
radiance, rasp and rhythm.
Poet’s United has the prompt ‘Wealth’.
Rich People Die
Rich people die.
Wealth is no buffer,
As they lie there—
The linen may be crisper,
That’s all.
At the closing of the day,
As the radiance of what was
Slowly slips away,
It is worth remembering
That whatever wealth you possess
Buys little of value.
Life has a rhythm,
An ebb and flow
That we sense
But never fully know.
Only as the last
Throaty rasp
Exits weakly
Do we finally
Understand.

We come in as we go out - like breath - it's a pity the bits in-between can sometimes go horribly wrong
ReplyDeleteWhew! Truth that we forget sometimes--the wealth is neither the person nor the trappings. Equality at last. I still envy, but somehow remembering this makes it easier.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, anything and everything a person owns all comes to nothing in the end! Too bad people don't start thinking about this earlier in life.
ReplyDeleteIt is worth remembering
ReplyDeleteThat whatever wealth you possess
Buys little of value.
A lot of wisdom here in these lines!
You can't take it with you. The egyptian pharoahs tried, but didn't keep it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe in that moment of transformation, all is understood. Beautifully done, Cosmo.
ReplyDeleteThis is a bit of a stinger but in a healthy sort of way.
ReplyDeleteWell written wise words We all die and we can't take wealth with us and we will understand sadly when it is too late
ReplyDeleteWell expressed... with a touch of "and then what"
ReplyDeleteSo true, and so well expressed.
ReplyDeleteThat we sense
ReplyDeleteBut never fully know.
Only as the last
Nearing death only that one realizes many instances that had been favorable but not taken up.
