Expectations, Met and Unmet.
Sitting in a country hotel,
On a business trip, of sorts.
The day’s tasks are done,
Dinner is finished,
The TV is off,
Winding down.
A time for coffee
And quiet reflection.
Expectations have been met.
But they were never high.
In search
Of something basic,
Something quite mundane
I rummage through the pockets
Of my travel case
And, unexpectedly, find a map,
A map and directions
To another country hotel,
For a business trip, of sorts.
A strategic trip in the scheme of things.
That, too, ended with coffee
And a quiet reflection.
And unmet expectations.
But they too were never high.

I like expectations that are not high.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!
Sounds as if you need to aspire to something above the bog ordinary ,just for a change of air so to speak:)
ReplyDeleteFoam: Blessed is the pessimist, for they shall never be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteWC: Does 'bog ordinary' apply to all the Celts or just the Irish? Or doesn't it matter any more? Or am I just splitting hairs? Anyway, even bogs seem something to aspire to in Mildura.
What's that saying?...see Mildura and die, or is that somewhere else:)You seem to be preoccupied with hair at the moment, splitting short and curly mementos. There is a cut of the fish knife and the breath of the red dragon about your posts lately..I await the return of the cute cuddly cosmopot Celt!

And there I was thinking of you out for dinner and a walk to check out the quirky corners of Mildura, maybe you'd grab a coffee, breath the country air and watch a country town walk by, and smile.
ReplyDeleteI have no expectations any more....no point...
ReplyDeleteI have a few expectations; whether they are met is unimportant. Whether at home or in a country hotel.
