Sunday Whirl (Wordle #124) presents a list of words
that we must incorporate in a writing piece.
The words this week are:
inky, wet, close, hole, sparks, feathery
shoots, scarlet, doubt, sway, oiled, lost
Mob Rule
The banners flutter brightly
And define the fighting teams.
Scarlet, blues, blacks and greens
The left, the right, dry, the wet.
Steel will challenge flint
Both hard and cold and yet,
While sparks are pretty certain,
Warmth and light are not.
Self-opinionated bystanders
Cheer with inky fingers,
Shooting letters to the papers.
But in times of doubt,
When uncertainty is king
And insecurity lingers,
Where manufactured fear prevails,
And all reason is lost
To the warm and feathery words,
Well-practiced and well oiled,
Of the opportunists
Who attempt to sway good people
To support the unpalatable,
To draw ranks,
To close holes,
To fend off the 'enemy',
An enemy
An enemy
More perceived than real:
Humanity is lost from the beginning
Subservient to the only goal—
Of winning.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite poet... :)
ReplyDeleteYou said it how it is...!
ReplyDelete" When uncertainty is king
ReplyDeleteAnd insecurity lingers,
Where manufactured fear prevails," - loved this lines the most.
Thought-provoking. I really liked "While sparks are pretty certain,
ReplyDeleteWarmth and light are not." Great phrasing.

The perceived enemy in some team sports can stimulate manic tendencies. It is a kind of mob rule intent on winning.
ReplyDeleteI loved the notion of a 'perceived enemy'. It do happen in sports.
ReplyDeleteYes, J Cosmo!! I think today this poem is very relevant. There are too many 'warm and feathery words' floating in the air these days!!
ReplyDeleteNot much can be added to this perceptive piece.
ReplyDeleteSo true and timely. These are scary times.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad when this happens ~ An excellent piece ~
ReplyDeleteNot an easy truth to swallow...
ReplyDeleteThey say that sport indeed is a metaphor for life. I think this captures well the truth behind that thought. Whatever event we are watching.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
I like how you have expressed your wariness of "mob rule".
ReplyDelete"But in times of doubt, / When uncertainty is king /And insecurity lingers, :Where manufactured fear prevails, /And all reason is lost" - like Natasa, I like these lines best!
JCN, ever the lords and kings will find ways to make the unwilling bow to the willing, in the march to battle.
ReplyDeleteYes. Sadly this is the truth. So well expressed, kiddo.
ReplyDeleteBrilliantly poetic write about the sad truth of the world when 'mobs rule.'
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad truth you write. But you do it so well.
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem for peace :)
ReplyDeleteThe wordle words disappeared under your skilled pen! These words have such relevance for the world today!!
ReplyDeleteManufactured fear is all too real... Sad. Nice work.
ReplyDelete"Humanity is lost from the beginning
ReplyDeleteSubservient to the only goal—
Of winning."
