Many moons ago, circa 1966, at the Chadstone Shopping Centre,
there was a shop called the Downyflake Donut Shop.
On the wall was an image of a jester with a donut and the following rhyme:
As you ramble on through life, brother,
Whatever be your goal,
Keep your eye upon the donut
And not upon the hole.
Armed with a cup of coffee, but no donut, I offer a few alternatives:
As you ramble on through life, brother,
Whatever be your tack,
Keep your eye upon the steam train
And not upon the track.
◊◊◊
As you ramble on through life, brother,
Whatever be your plan,
Keep your eye upon the dancer
And not upon the fan.
◊◊◊
As you ramble on through life, brother,
Whatever be your wish,
Keep your eye upon the fish-hook
And not upon the fish.
◊◊◊
As you ramble on through life, brother,
Whatever be your aim,
Keep your eye upon enjoyment
And not upon the fame.

ReplyDeletekeeping one's eye on the fan and NOT the dancer is the way to ramble: the fan is where all the action is ....

ReplyDeletebut i'm looking at the fan unless it's a male dancer ..
I don't intend to have anything to do with fish hooks thankyou very much.
ReplyDeleteAs you ramble through life, sister,
ReplyDeleteHappy as a lark,
Keep your eye on the oak tree,
And not upon the bark.
My mum says she's with Foam on this one too.
ReplyDeleteMy parents own a reproduction of a painting from the same artist; it depicts a group of musicians playing. I love that painting, mostly due to the vivid, strong colours.;)
ReplyDeleteKeep your eye upon enjoyment
ReplyDeleteAnd not upon the fame....Truer words were never spoken...living life not for the pride of the destination but for the glory of the journey.

Loved these! Now you just need to market them and you'll be a millionaire!
