709 : The New Day

Sunday Whirl (Wordle #163) presents a list of words
that we must incorporate in a writing piece.

The words this week are:

sturdy, scent, propel, chase, terrain, fluid,
paving, launch, countless, field, lean, jovial

The New Day

Some people fall from bed.
Some people crawl from bed,
Reluctant to leave this padded field of dreams
For the, they say, cold terrain of reality;
They're happier to stay in their feathered bed
With sturdy little legs (on the bed)
And generous padding and woolly embrace
(Still talking about the bed)
Rather than propel themselves into a new day,
Rather than to launch themselves upon
A, quite frankly, uncaring world.
They remain snug, comatose and curled
Like so many sleeping slugs
Found beneath my paving stones.
Others, of course,
(And they are hated by the first)
Burst from their beds,
Bright-eyed and jovial,
Eager to venture forth,
Liking nothing better than
To lean reflectively against trees
In the early morning light,
Cupping their hands
Around mugs of hot fluids
(Not always herbal teas
Despite the aspersions made by
Their less energetic
And horizontal opposites)
They stand there,
With the hot fluids of their choice,
Watching the world unfold,
As the sun breaks through the leaves,
As small birds flit from bush to bush,
Chasing equally flitty insects,
As webs boast their jewellery of evening dew,
Absorbing the smells, the sights, the sounds,
Heaven seen,
Heaven heard,
Heaven scent.

  1. It wasn't easy finding a theme to use for this week's word set.
It will be interesting to see what others decided on.

  2. Ha I would rather propel myself from bed rather than fall or crawl....and will do so as long as I can. Smiles.

  3. I like to stay snuggled in the bed longer but I am of those that get up feeling energized by the morning ~ I love the turn from lethargic to one full of energy & eagerness to embrace the world ~

  4. So long as I am alone I belong to the second set. If forced to interact too early I am not cheerful. Energetic perhaps but not cheerful.
My partner is a slug-a-bed and given his druthers springs out of bed at the crack of noon. Which works for both of us.

  5. They stand there,
With the hot fluids of their choice,
    Watching the world unfold,

That's what one aspires to. Being energetic is contagious. One feels lots of satisfaction seeing the enthusiasm rubs off on others. Wonderful write Cosmo!

  7. i would rather rise to the smell of coffee and stroll to the deck to take the world in as it wakes up...if only i could get rid of the alarm....

You encapsulate the morning well . I love the smells of the dewy silent mornings before the rest of the world wakes up.

This was fun! I kind of stagger from the bed, always against my will, but also against the clock. So, I would love to be one, but I'm forced into the world of the other. But I dearly loved 'webs boasting their jewelry of evening dew' - yes, I do love seeing that. Really enjoyed this poem, thank you. - Vivienne, of OneVoicePoetry.

Ha, I loved this! Today, I was sloth-like as it's Sunday. During the week I have to rise from bed before I've realised what I'm doing. I used to be a bouncer-outer, but now it requires more determination :)

I liked the play of heaven scent verses the traditional heaven sent, nice

  14. I wonder whether you really are like that. Don't tell me you haven't walked in the garden early morn and stuck you face into a angry spiders web and envied your spouse warm and cuddly indoors.

Okay, honestly...I used to be one who sought the sunrise and thoroughly enjoyed doing so, drink in hand. Then I return home and the only thing that invited me was my nice warm soft bed. Does that make me both?

  16. I like "padded field of dreams" and all the fun you had with this. I think I can guess which kind of person you are. (I'm the other and yes, we hate you, lol.)

  17. Cos, your opposing groups are great. And yes, I'm one of the reluctant, coffee-swilling, hate-to-get-out-of-bed types! Something tells me you are, too. These are the two groups most at odds with each other: Those who tackle the day, and those whose day tickles them until they get their asses out of bed! Loved the "still talking about the bed," just brill! Amy

  19. I am a fall and crawl from bed type of person..although sometimes it's a 3am cup of tea in bed listening to the birds and watching the sun come up...not quite out there ushering in the joy..but quietly acknowledging it!

  20. I don't know about a new day...but it must have taken you a day to compose this. Well done.

I love my bed, too...so, too, do my two cats...they must love it more because they allow me only a small space on it....a king-size...and I'm allowed less room on it than the lowest of lowly help!

You've come this far - thank you.
Take your time, look around,
There is lots to see.
